Remainders: Composition and Recording Notes

These short texts are fractal lyrics composed after September 11, 2001. Each one is dedicated to a key American musician -- Miles Davis, Elliott Carter, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Lacy, Charles Mingus -- and incorporates a few tactics culled from the poetries of Elizabeth Bishop, Paul Celan and Lorenz Hart, among others. For these recordings, I thought it was appropriate to remove my own voice, as much as possible, so I have created a set of five madrigal-like choruses, recited by a counterpointed and looped quartet of voice-synthesizers reminiscent of early voice-generators for PCs (like SAM, for instance): disembodied, almost; ghostings maybe.
